Sunshine doesn't come in a bottle, and Vitamin D doesn't grow in a field.

However, sunshine and vitamin D are both essential to the human body.

Sunshine is a vital element, and Vitamin D is a hormone.


Sunshine and sunlight are sometimes recognized as the other vitamin.

Naturally there are many reasons to let the sunshine in:

  1. Sunlight brings strength to every living creature

  2. Sunlight is vitally important in the nutritive processes in both plant and animal life, as a necessary nutritive factor.

  3. Sunshine aids in the production of foods.

  4. Sunshine is the highest degree of health, and it cannot be maintained without it.

  5. Sunlight greatly increases the body's consumption of oxygen

  6. Sunshine feeds the muscles. It increases the calcium, in the muscles, and adds to their enduring powers.

  7. Sunlight is an important element of the natural diet.

  8. Sunshine exposure strengthens the cardiovascular system.

  9. Sunshine helps to improve our mood, our thoughts to focus on happy thoughts, while boosting the serotonin levels in the body.

  10. Sunlight decreases the risk of depression, as a "Happiness Hormone"

  11. The body does not store up sunshine, it uses it for energy and the skin synthesizes vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a hormone rather than a vitamin in it's natural form.

These are the natural uses of Vitamin D as it is absorbed and produced.

  1. Vitamin D is required to absorb calcium, from the gut into the blood stream.

  2. Vitamin D is mostly produced in the skin in response to sunlight.

  3. Vitamin D is absorbed from food eaten.

  4. Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and neuromuscular system

  5. Vitamin D is important in the roles it plays int he life cycle of the human cells.

  6. Vitamin D is made by the body itself. It is a prohormone produced photochemically in the skin from 7-dehydrocholesterol.

  7. Vitamin D is a hormone the kidneys produce that controls blood calcium concentration and impacts the immune system.


To make up the ingredients of life we need oxygen, water, and food. These are the essential elements of health:

  2. pure water

  3. natural food

  4. fresh air

  5. pleasant temperature

  6. exercise

  7. rest

  8. sleep

  9. mental poise

  10. spiritual well-being
